Hortaleza Professional Black Pelan Hot Oil Treatment

Fab Find # 2: Hortaleza Professional Black Pelan Hot Oil Treatment

After Mondes Ionic hair treatment saved by damaged hair, I've realized that there is still hope after all! Haha. I have managed to revive my nearly hair. All we have to do is to make a little changes NOW before it's too late. Have I mentioned that I also bought a wide toothed comb?

For this post, I would like to share my latest fab find – it's the Hortaleza Professional Black Pelan Hot Oil Treatment.

I asked my mom to assist me to #HBC# in Santa Cruz Laguna. My mom and I  love HBC products sooo much! We were looking for a hot oil for our weekly kikay bonding. The sales attendant actually offered me to use the Hortaleza Professional Black Pelan Hot Oil Treatment. What's good about it is it's P198 for 2 bottles! Sulit!

My mom and I tried it immediately at home. It has nice menthol scent-sation which is good on this summer season. We let it stay for 30 minutes of chikahan. After rinsing, our hair looks healthy and feels smoother. So we agreed to use it weekly! I use mine as an alternate with my Mondes Ionic hair treatment.

Hortaleza Professional Black Pelan Hot Oil Treatment contins black pelan silt - an organic substance which is rich in minerals and lipids. Its botanical and mineral components condition the hair and scalp for a healthier scalp and smoother and shinier hair. It's also formulated with Jojoba oil and Vitamin E to make hair healthy.

Extend Shelf Life of Fruits and Veggies

Most people end up throwing up to 14 percent of grocery items that they buy, mostly due to spoilage. Reducing wastage begins with proper storage.

Take in these tips to prevent spoilage of your fresh market purchases!

Segregate. Do not store fruits and vegetables together. Fruits emit a gas called ethylene, a ripening agent that can prematurely spoil veggies near it.

Keep some in the fridge, some on the counter.
Some fruits, like avocados, tomatoes, mangoes, melons, apples, and pears can be left on the kitchen counter to ripen (if they haven’t yet). But others—like bell peppers, grapes, oranges, and berries—will rot if you don’t keep them in the fridge.

Bananas are notorious for ripening right away, but once ripe, you can prolong their life by placing them in the refrigerator (the peel will turn black, but the inside should stay edible for up to two weeks). Unripe bananas should be stored on the countertop, as placing them in the fridge will stop the ripening process.

Don’t wash them. At least, not right away. Keep the stems intact, and only wash the fruits and veggies when you’re ready to use them. Washing can damage the skin, causing a faster rate of decay.

Remove all packaging. Ditch the cling-wrap and sealed plastic bags. While they were stored that way in the supermarket, it’s important to remove them in order to let the fruits and veggies “breathe” better. Keeping them sealed will spoil them quicker. Don’t forget to remove all rubber bands and ties.

Give them some room. Don’t just throw in all your vegetables in the crisper—give them some room to breathe. The closer together vegetables are packed, the quicker they rot.

Freeze it! When you see veggies that are beginning to lose their freshness, pop them in a pressure cooker, then puree the cooked veggies, and put in ice cube trays. When frozen, transfer them to ziplock bags and mark the date when you pureed them. These will generally last up to six months, but it’s best to consume them before that (you can also do this with fruits, minus the cooking part). Alternatively, you can cook them in a vegetable broth and freeze the broth for later use.

Don’t buy more than you need.
If you eat fruits daily by the crate, then by all means, buy crates of fruit at a time. If, however, your rate of fruit intake a day is just one banana or half an apple, it wouldn’t make sense to still buy fruits in bulk. Most of these will just end up as wastage. Plan your market trips accordingly to prevent an overpopulation of veggies in the fridge.

Shop according to a planned menu. Before you go to the supermarket, plan your menu for the week. Then buy only the fruits and vegetables that your menu asks for. This way, you can efficiently use up then replace your produce in your kitchen regularly.

Sweet corn
Use sweet corn as soon as you can—after harvest, it loses its sugar content quickly. It can still last from four to eight days in the refrigerator, but towards the end, sweet corn will already be starchy.

How many times have you ended up throwing away produce from your fridge?

Keep Your Cool Under Pressure

There are days when you feel your buttons are being pushed way too hard. But the last thing you want to do is detonate in bad language and angry gestures! So here you go – our tips on how you can keep cool in various situations and come out of it smiling (even if you were boiling inside to begin with!).

How to keep cool… with your kids
One for the moms: Like it or not, but kids can have a knack for bringing out the worst in adults. And it may seem easier to just give up and throw in the towel when dealing with a difficult child, or lose your temper, which isn’t exactly ideal.

So how do you keep your cool when your temper is red hot? Try this: Look at the situation in perspective. Your child may have a reason for lashing out or could be having an off day, which is completely normal as we are all entitled. So instead of being angry, take a breather and know that your child doesn’t intend to drive you crazy; he or she just needs a little more attention than before.

The other thing that works? Get goofy! Nothing works like being silly. This provides a great distraction and soon everyone–kid and you included–will forget why you’re angry in the first place. Sing a silly song, dance crazily, or just have a tickle fest. It works all the time.

How to keep your cool… with annoying colleagues
We all have them–annoying colleagues who just say the wrong thing and do the darnest thing to get on our nerves. From not meeting their end of the bargain to simply not knowing when to shut up, we don’t blame you if there are days when you feel like using the tape to seal your colleague’s mouth shut.

Wait, let go of that masking tape and opt out of violence instead. You don’t want to blow up and be known as the “Crazy One” at work. First things first, to remain calm and to keep your composed professional self–breathe. While your first instinct may be to snap back at your colleague, you’re better off stepping back and taking a deep breath instead. This buys you time to stop you from saying something you will regret. If you must, vent to a friend (someone completely out of your working zone) over a cup of coffee. Just being able to let it all out can do wonders to your mood.

Still annoyed? Find your happy place. Whether it is a few minutes on your favourite website or moving on to the next level on Candy Crush, taking time out will distract you from what’s bothering you in the first place, lets you ease your stress, and help you get back to work in a better mood.

How to keep your cool… when fighting with your partner
You’re both raising your voices and tempers are rising. But before that fight with your boyfriend or your husband turns into an all-out argument where you’ll both regret the things that come out from your mouth, try this.

In the article Fighting Happily Ever After by Elizabeth Bernstein from online.wsj.com, Dr. Howard Markman, professor of psychology at the University of Denver as well as co-author of Fighting for Your Marriage, calls it the “speaker-listener technique”. In this technique, Bernstein explains that Dr. Howard suggests  “couples who have a disagreement should call a couple’s meeting, set a time limit of 15 minutes, and discuss the issue at hand. He even suggests flipping a coin to see who gets to speak first.”

After stating your piece, you should then give your partner the chance to speak, explaining one’s position. “A lot of times, all you need is to be listened to,” says Dr. Markman. Through this exercise, the resolution will then become obvious, says the good doctor. If not? It’s time to schedule another meeting.

Remember the few golden rules of fighting: don’t make it personal, stop trying to win all the time, and make sure to listen. You’ll soon realize that the argument was for nothing.

As we feel the cool breeze of afternoon rain, having a warm bowl of mami is definitely just right! Who doesn’t love mami?

For a diner that specializes mami, my kids and my hubby would definitely come to RUISEY’s Fud Haws located at P. Guevarra St.,Poblacion,Sta. Cruz,Laguna, Laguna.

Lemon can empty this big bowl of beef mami!

They have the best-tasting beef mami we’ve ever tried! You could really imagined the long hours spent to prepare the broth and the tender beef. This hearty meal cost only P30. Sulit!

Mango takes his time with his warm bowl of beef mami

Another revelation to us Lagunense is their Gotong Batangas (P25). This is not your typical goto for it is doesn’t have rice or malagkit. Ruisey’s Gotong Batangas is a a steamy bowl full of strips of stomach lining from cattle. It is similar to the popular preparation of papaitan. Served it with chopped onions, soy sauce, calamansi and chilli! Talo-talo na’to! haha.

My kids also love halo-halo while I have a big appetite for palabok and maruya! Yum yum yum!

Ruisey’s is open from Mon to Sat. I highly recommend this! You’ll absolutely come back for more!

My Lucky Levi's Jeans

Whenever Levi’s comes to mind, I have a little flashback to my teen years. It’s well-known quality and durability makes me hope to have one for myself. I bought my first pair of Levi’s in Levi's factory outlet in Pasong Tamo Ext Makati City.

Hubby bought this jeans from Centro Department Store in Santa Cruz, Laguna last December 2012 for P2xxx (original price at P3xxx)! Whew!   I fell in love with it the moment I lay eyes on it.

I called it my lucky Levi’s jeans because I was weighing 55kg with 28-29 waistline that time but its 25W fits me well (okay, with belly bulges and ipit hininga!hehe).

From then on, I promise to lose weight so I could make use the most of it!  I now weighs 48kgs and uses my lucky Levi’s jeans 3times a week! Sulit na sulit! haha!

My Cherished Memories

My memories with my parents are those gentle ones
which I kept close to my heart.

Memories of mom reading aloud for me to memorize my ABC,
her concerned eyes while drying my tears,
mom and dad watching quietly from the crowd on school performances,
dad carrying me to sleep as I pressed my forehead against his shoulder
and warm steady hands of mom holding my tiny cold hands.

These are the ones I look every time I need something to hold on to.
It brings me back to my cherished childhood
-       As it never fails to give me strength!
